Ski trip! Midnight Madness @ Mad River Mountain!
Friday February 24th, 2012 - Cars leave at 9pm, event goes from 10:30pm-3am!
As we first revealed at Australia Day, we are going to take a Footy social up to Mad River Mountain for their Midnight Madness next Friday night, February 24. If you haven't heard about Midnight Madness, it's supposedly a very fun event each weekend up at one of our local ski hills. It starts at 10:30 at night and the lifts don't close down until three at night. For those of you who don't ski or board and have no interest in starting, there is a tubing park that is open until one in the morning and there are a lot of people who go up just to hang out at the bar and occasionally go out to see their friends make fools of themselves. I'm sure that even those who are skiing will rotate in and out of the pub area a time or two.
The lift ticket for the night is $30. If we have at least fifteen people, we get a 15% discount on lift tickets. Tubing is $25 for a three hour window (it closes at one). Rentals (if you need them) are $30 at the mountain, or $20 at Aspen Ski & Board here in Columbus. There may be better rates somewhere else as well, I haven't searched in depth. If you just ride up to go to the bar, there really isn't a cost other than chipping in a couple bucks for gas.
So, for logistics, I need to do a little planning in advance. We need to figure out who is going to drive, which only takes a little advanced planning in this case because we need serious designated drivers for the hour long trip back after a pub night. Once I have heard back from everyone who is planning to go, I'll let you know where/when we are going to meet. We'll probably shoot to leave Columbus around 8:30-9:00 so that we can get up there and get people their rentals (if needed).
I'm really excited for this. It will be a good chance for everyone to goof off and catch up before the season gets roaring again! Please feel free to invite any family, friends, or prospects who might be interested.

Australia Day Celebration!
January 26th, 2012 7:30pm start @ Byrne's Pub
Dress like an Australian! Seriously, it's January here in Ohio, which means it's like our July down in Australia, with the highs in the 80s and 90s! So wear your flip flops, shorts, sun hat, and sunglasses! Wear a flag like a cape, or anything else you can think of. Bonus points for creativity! There will be a prize for the best dressed. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and probably some trivia and some other stuff. We'll have a game on the tele and some other stuff too. It'll be a great time to rekindle with the guys and gals, talk about offseason training regiments, and see who's still on their New Year's resolutions! It's sure to be a blast - it's been better and better each year so far! So come on out and bring your friends and family!

Columbus' Nationals tournament preparation heats up, as the Jackaroos draw battle lines in the Tuttle Park meadowlands. With all the trash-talking that has ensued since draft day, this will surely be a hotly contested matchup. Bring an umbrella and lawn chair, and come out to watch these blokes get down, dirty, and soaked. 6pm @ Tuttle Park.
Jacks vs Ohio Valley (write up)

On a Saturday afternoon in August the footy players of Cincinnati, Louisville, and St. Louis all travelled to Columbus to wrap up the Jackaroos 2011 MAAFL season. None of the Jacks had forgotten the loss to Ohio Valley in 2010, and the opportunity for redemption served as a strong motivator all season.
